Rail Door Solutions awarded RISAS certification

Rail Safety and Standards Board (RSSB) has announced that Halcrow Group Limited has approved Rail Door Solutions for door maintenance services under the Railway Industry Supplier Approval Scheme (RISAS).

RISAS is a cross-industry scheme which provides transferable assurance of the quality of the suppliers of critical products and services for rolling stock overhaul. It provides a third party assessment process covering the shop floor attitudes as well as the processes of suppliers. Crucially it removes the need to have separate individual audits of a supplier by multiple industry ‘duty holders’.

Rail Door Solutions is an independent company in its tenth year, with extensive experience in the design, installation and maintenance of all types of rail door systems.

Halcrow specialises in the provision of planning, design and management services for infrastructure development worldwide. In the railways sector it provides multi-disciplinary capabilities for the provision of services to the industry, covering all stages of development, procurement, implementation, and operation of rail services, infrastructure and rolling stock.

Rail Door Solutions was assessed and approved by Halcrow. Assessments of suppliers by Rail Industry Supplier Approval Bodies (RISABs) such as Halcrow are comprehensive and focused on the specialised nature of the industry’s requirements.

Ian Papworth, Chair of the RISAS Board commented, “It’s brilliant news that Rail Door Solutions has achieved RISAS approval. Their commitment sends a positive signal to the rest of the industry, providing increased assurance and accountability.”

Mike Harmer, Projects Director at Rail Door Solutions said, “As a company committed to providing a world class engineering service to the rail industry, we are delighted to be awarded RISAS status. Through RISAS we can reduce our cost base but at the same time demonstrate we meet the highest safety and assurance standards on the basis of one single assessment and approval process.”

Tim Dugher, Engineering Director at Angel Trains said, “Rolling stock companies rely on the input of specialist companies like Rail Door Solutions. It comes as no surprise to us that they have won RISAS accreditation – their high technical calibre warrants the gold standard assurance RISAS provides.”

David Mullins, RISAB Manager at Halcrow said, “The approval process is a rigorous one and Rail Door Solutions has made the grade. It’s been a privilege to act as the company’s RISAB and it’s testament to the commitment and hard work all round that they have been successful.”

Jeremy Sprigg, Managing Director of Rail Door Solutions said, “Rail Door Solutions is in its tenth year and has consistently strived to meet the engineering and quality standards required to succeed in such a demanding safety-driven industry. Obtaining RISAS approval is another such achievement. Therefore, congratulations to the Rail Door Solutions and Halcrow teams for their commitment, allowing us to be only the sixth company in the country to achieve the groundbreaking standard.”
