Cheshire council launches action plan for enhanced HS2 Crewe hub station
Cheshire East Council has launched an action plan to create an enhanced HS2 hub station in Crewe in order to maximise its potential benefits and engage with local businesses.
The development framework includes growth and regeneration opportunities for the town and region. As part of the plan’s consultation, an HS2 issue paper has been published and the council will invite comments as to what the considerations should be when planning “for this nationally important infrastructure.”
Called the Crewe station hub area action plan, the key planning document will continue to be developed throughout the consultation through meet-ups with local businesses and meetings between the council’s planning policy team and a variety of stakeholders.
Councillor Rachel Bailey, leader of Cheshire East Council, said: “The Crewe station hub area action plan builds on our previous work for the Crewe masterplan. This also continues to show government that the right hub at Crewe station will bring many opportunities to Crewe and the borough as a whole.
“As a council, we have not decided what the opportunities are going to be in the area when HS2 arrives. We want to work with the community and local businesses to identify them, so we have a plan that reflects the local area.
“This plan will give us the framework we need to allow future growth when the station arrives.”
HS2 began its consultation for Phase 2a of the £56bn project last month, looking for contractors to build the high-speed railway between the West Midlands and Crewe after the government finalised plans for the Crewe hub in March.
Cheshire East Council launched a public consultation on its draft masterplan for the HS2 Crewe station this time last year after the local authority’s cabinet unanimously approved the plans.
