EMC training

Electromagnetic compatibility is a major issue in the railway environment. In order to ensure that electrical/electronic equipment does not produce interference in other electrical/electronic systems, it is vital that design engineers and systems integrators have an understanding of the complexities of the environment, are aware of ‘good’ EMC design and installation practices, and understand the safety and regulatory issues.

York EMC Services Ltd, University of York, is the leading provider of EMC continuing professional development and runs the unique ‘EMC in Railways’ course. The course is held regularly at York or can be presented in house on a customer’s premises.

A range of training opportunities exist, from ‘Fundamentals of EMC’ (23 –27 April) through to ‘Advanced EMC measurements and testing’ (21 – 23 May). Particularly timely is the workshop covering ‘Technical documentation’ (15 March) which will be needed for all new equipment after 20 July 2007 when the new EMC Directive becomes effective.
