Flood Hit Tewkesbury needs rail slope work
Long reach excavator specialist WM Plant Hire are using their 25m reach CAT 375 machine to work on the emergency stabilisation of the rail cutting east of Tewkesbury flooding area.
Heavy rain has led to several landslips along this length of cutting on the Birmingham to Bristol main line, the Cross Country Route. The long reach is being used to remove the failed material, cut in a new slope profile and grade imported stone fill to the embankment slope.
The line remains open and the machine is able to reach from the top of the slope. The main line railway runs parallel to the M5 at Tewkesbury, but is situated above the flood plain and on this occasion the damage was not due to flooding or scour, but the volume of rainfall weakening the underlying material.
