Keighley station set for £4m upgrade
Network Rail has announced an investment of over £4m into the upgrade of Keighley station, improving services and experiences for the 1.7 million annual passengers.
The station building will undergo transformation, as well as the footbridge and entrance, making it brighter and more inviting, whilst protecting its Grade II listed building heritage.
The canopies that run above access ramps will be refurbished, and given a fresh coat of paint, making the station more aesthetic and with better lighting.
Work will be carried out on both platforms to improve stepping distances between the platforms and the trains, this will include a full resurfacing.
The station is managed by Northern, who will be working closely with Network Rail to ensure minimise disruption for all station users.
Mark Bloor, Route Asset Manager for Network Rail, said:
“This upgrade at Keighley station will bring many benefits to passengers and all those who use the station. Refurbishing the building and improving the footbridge will make using the station more pleasant.
“The platform improvements will benefit those travelling to and from Keighley station, making it easier to get on and off trains on the route.
“Network Rail is working with train operators to minimise any disruption whilst this work is carried out.”
Design work is currently underway for the improvements and work is expected to start in April 2021, and completed in March 2022. However, no train services are not expected to be impacted by the work ongoing.
John Grogan, MP for Keighley, said:
“Keighley Railway Station now used by over one and a half million passengers a year was first opened in March 1847. It is very fitting that for its 175th birthday it is going to get a major facelift.”
