MTU Friedrichshafen opens new location in United Kingdom

Tognum subsidiary MTU Friedrichshafen has opened new offices and a workshop for MTU UK in East Grinstead

Tognum is one of the world’s leading suppliers of high speed diesel engines and complete propulsion systems for ships, heavy land and rail vehicles and of industrial drive systems as well as decentralized power plants, set-up in the two divisions mtu Engines and Tognum Onsite Energy Systems and Components. Its product portfolio includes diesel engines in the power range from 20 to 9,100 kW, gas engine systems, gas turbines and fuel cells and is one of the most modern and comprehensive in its sector.

In addition, the group develops and manufactures custom-made electronic control and monitoring systems for its engines and propulsion systems.

MTU Friedrichshafen GmbH supplies diesel engines and complete drive systems for ships, heavy land and rail vehicles, industrial applications and decentralized power generation plants. Covering diesel engines from 20 kW to 9,100 kW and gas turbines, the range of products is one of the most modern and wide-ranging in the sector. And to control and monitor its engines and drive plants, the company develops and manufactures its own custom-tailored electronic systems.

Since the beginning of the year, MTU UK has been a fully qualified distributor and is responsible for sales and after sales of MTU Friedrichshafen on the UK market. Whilst the newly furnished workshop located next to the office complex serves as a central service centre for the UK market, their dedicated field service is currently extended.

MTU Friedrichshafen has been represented in the UK since 1986, with the rail, marine and powergen businesses and after sales business particularly contributing to strong growth in the UK.

The number of staff employed by MTU in the UK doubled to more than 30 in 2008. Whilst the growing yacht and genset business is largely export-focused, the rail sector has provided significant domestic sales with the accompanying after sales business. Also, the UK is one of MTU Friedrichshafen’s largest markets worldwide for energy supply systems to the oil & gas industry.

The extended area of responsibility of MTU UK shows a strong customer focus on the UK market and reflects the decentralization strategy of Tognum AG, sending out a strong signal for long-term customer relations.

Sales of the Tognum Group amounted to more than EUR 2.8 billion in 2007. By the end of 2007, the Group employed approximately 8,200 personnel worldwide. It maintains a global sales and distribution network including 23 consolidated subsidiaries, more than 130 distribution partners and 1,100 authorized dealers.
