Network Rail now ‘easier to work with’, supplier survey shows
The results of this years’ Rail Supplier Perception Survey show that though communication with Network Rail has improved, more consistent collaboration and engagement were needed.
The survey, the seventh of its kind, was conducted by Ipsos MORI and consisted of 70 interviews with suppliers.
Advocacy reached its highest level since the survey began, with an increase from 0.33 in 2011 to 0.58 in 2012. More than half of respondents were prepared to be named alongside their scores, demonstrating greater openness and honesty throughout the supply chain.
For the first time, more suppliers said that Network Rail is easier to work with than say it is more difficult to work with, and the number of suppliers dissatisfied with their work with Network Rail decreased from 16% in 2011 to 6% this year.
Collaboration and consistency remain an important requirement for achieving best value, suppliers reported. One commented that upfront engagement is very good, but the process suffers during the bid stage.
David McLoughlin, finance and commercial director for Network Rail’s Infrastructure Projects, said the results were “very welcoming” and “encouraging” and said the company is focusing on the areas highlighted for improvement.
