New investment gives Grantham a welcome lift
Train operator National Express East Coast is giving passengers at Grantham station a welcome lift with the completion of a £2.5 million improvement programme on the East Coast Main Line.
The company, which manages Grantham station as well as running trains to and from London, Yorkshire, North East England and Scotland, has this week opened new passenger lifts linking the platforms at the busy south Lincolnshire station.
National Express East Coast spokesman John Gelson said:
“The new lifts at Grantham are part of a £2.5 million investment in improved station facilities, which has also introduced a fully accessible link between platforms at Newark North Gate and Durham stations, as well as at Grantham.
“The new lifts make getting between the platforms much easier, especially for passengers with disabilities or those with heavy luggage. We’re sure passengers will welcome this latest investment to make travel simpler”.
The new lifts can each carry up to 16 people, and have been built into the existing station footbridge to provide level access between the north and southbound platforms. Previously anyone unable to use the footbridge had to use a crossing at the south end of the platforms with the assistance of station staff.
National Express East Coast is investing more than £10 million during its seven year franchise, which began in December 2007, to improve waiting rooms and information provision, increase CCTV cover, add more cycle spaces and increase car parking by 33 per cent.
Grantham is one of 12 stations along the East Coast Main Line which are managed by National Express East Coast.
