ScotRail’s new Inter7City train breaks down on landmark voyage
ScotRail’s new Inter7City train broke down on its landmark journey after leaving Aberdeen on a VIP trip.
Hailed as a milestone voyage, Scotland’s refurbished high-speed train left Aberdeen bound for the capital on its inaugural journey before it broke down near Ladybank in Fife.
The Inter7City rolling stock will be entering service between Aberdeen and Edinburgh from the beginning of next week, but ScotRail organised a VIP service for politicians, business people, rail journalists and invited guests ahead of the debut.
The service reportedly arrived in Edinburgh 30 minutes behind schedule, with an air leak bringing the train to a standstill.
ScotRail said there was a “short delay” due to a technical issue but the train was quickly moved on.
The train will be the first of the upgraded HSTs set to connect Scotland’s seven cities, cutting down journey times for commuters, tourists and businesspeople alike.
The first upgraded InterCity train arrived in Scotland in August, and roll-out is expected to be completed by late 2019.
