Your chance to live in a railway station… complete with its own train
A former 19th century railway station, featuring its own track and steam train, is for sale for any rail enthusiast who has £600,000 to spare.
The former Great Northern Railway Station in Rippingale, Lincolnshire, was built in 1872 and closed in 1964.
John and Sheila Scholes, rail enthusiasts and former funeral directors, have lived there since buying it in 1991.
The Scholes’ are now putting the property up for sale, with the unique bonus features of the original railway platform and the 1924 steam locomotive ‘Elizabeth’.
In an advert on Rightmove, the owners describe the house as a “beautifully presented former Great Northern Railway station built in 1872”.
“The property has a wealth of character and original features and is recorded as a fine example of railway architecture,” the advert added.
“Located to the east of the village, the station closed to traffic in the Beeching closures of the 1960s. The property is set on approximately 1.2 acres and has various development opportunities within the main house, a detached engine shed and barn which could be converted into further dwellings, subject to planning permissions. The property benefits from having five reception rooms, four cloakrooms and three bedrooms.”
