Engineering: a ‘rail’ good career move
The Engineering and Technology board may have renamed themselves, but it changes little about the state of affairs in regards to the availability of rail engineering jobs.
Whilst I would be the first to agree that rail engineering is a very good job to get into, I believe that more should be done
to increase the amount of vacancies available to those who do train.
Surely by encouraging more people to become qualified in engineering without tackling the need for more vacancies,
we will be achieving nothing; given the state of the wider construction industry, those who do qualify and do not get jobs in rail could potentially find it difficult to get work anywhere.
What we need to do to secure our rail engineering jobs is to fight for more funding for rail and abetter structure which allows both train operators and the government to manage Britain’s railways more effectively.
