Mott MacDonald Singapore gets top safety trophy
A Mott MacDonald Singapore assignment, the Kallang-Paya Lebar Expressway (KPE) Contract 423 has won the Civil Engineering Award at the Singapore Building and Construction Authority’s (BCA) Design and Engineering Safety Excellence Awards.
The BCA awards recognise the efforts of engineers and project teams in overcoming various challenges to ensure safety in design, construction and maintenance through adoption of innovative design processes, measures and solutions.
Mott MacDonald Singapore provided design services to Samsung Corporation for Contract 423, a 3 km fully underground section of the KPE that runs beneath an existing canal for 2 km and underneath a surface road for 1 km.
Numerous challenges were encountered during the project, including the presence of deep soft soils and sensitive adjacent structures. This led to the expressway being labelled one of the most difficult projects in the world by the client, the Land Transport Authority.
The award was presented to Mott MacDonald’s You Fook Hin by Singapore’s Senior Minister of State for National Development and Education, Grace Fu, at the BCA awards dinner, which was attended by over 1000 leading sector figures.
Fook Hin commented that: “Protecting public safety when we carry out our projects is the top priority for Mott MacDonald Singapore. It is a great honour for us to win the BCA award.”
