Sir Terry Morgan drops London City Airport job to focus on HS2

Sir Terry Morgan CBE has decided to step down from his role as chairman of London City Airport to focus solely on HS2.

The former Crossrail boss joined HS2 Ltd last month as chairman, taking over from Sir David Higgins after being appointed by transport secretary Chris Grayling.

He joined the capital’s airport in March 2017 and has been at the helm over the last 18 months as the company started the City Airport Development Programme, secured new routes, and appointed a new leadership team.

Sir Terry originally intended to hold both chairman roles at the airport and HS2 Ltd in parallel after having left his job at Crossrail Ltd—but he has now decided to focus on the high-speed infrastructure project as it begins to unfold on the ground.

He said: “London City Airport is one of the most important transport assets in London, providing vital air connectivity to the capital.

“It is therefore with some sadness that I step down from the Board at this time to focus on HS2, but I am very confident that the airport will continue to flourish under the Board, shareholders and leadership team, fulfilling its huge potential for London and the UK over the coming years.”

Robert Sinclair, the chief executive of London City Airport, wished Sir Terry “all the very best as he takes the helm at HS2, a significant national transport project.”
