Crossrail chair Sir Terry Morgan to step down after project setbacks
The chairman of the £15bn Crossrail project, Sir Terry Morgan, is reported to be preparing to step down after it was revealed that the new line would not open until an undefined date next autumn, Sky News has revealed.
Sir Terry, who has held the role since 2009, and also chairs HS2, is set to be replaced over the coming months as Sky News reported that sources in Whitehall said on Wednesday that replacements are being lined up for his position.
However, the details of Sir Terry’s departure are yet to be confirmed and none of the supposed replacements have been approached.
Last month, it was revealed at a London Assembly meeting that the delays to the Crossrail project could lead to a loss of £20m in revenue for TfL in the upcoming financial year.
The Crossrail project is one of the largest infrastructure projects in England for decades and was due to open this December. Just last week, mayor of London Sadiq Khan commissioned a report into the project’s governance and said that he “cannot be sure” of a completion date.
Sir Terry left his position at London City Airport at the end of August to focus on HS2 after taking over from Sir David Higgins.
