It costs how much?
The NHS is a vast organisation not known for responding quickly to management advice from on high.
So although it is to be congratulated for quickly implementing an examination into the prices paid for medical supplies by trusts, partly in reaction to the recent NAO report which revealed how millions are being wasted through poor buying practices, we still have to rely on the trusts themselves to take a proactive involvement.
Hopefully the majority will heed the call, realising there is something in it for them in terms of savings, rather than equivocating and obfuscating and hiding behind spurious confidentiality agreements with their suppliers – the only organisations really served by keeping pricing practice opaque.
