New fleet launched for Heathrow Express
Heathrow Express has launched the first of its newly refurbished trains, after a £15m investment into its rolling stock.
The upgrade of its fleet of 14 four-car Class 332s is aimed at making the experience for passengers more like that of an airline and to comply with new safety standards that will be introduced in 2019.
The project has taken nine months with Heathrow Express working closely with Siemens, Railcare and Interfleet.
Improvements include first class seats being all one plus one, new seat covers, moveable arm rests, power sockets throughout, coat hooks, new magazine nets, glazing in the windows, new carpets, clear glass for overhead luggage racks with seats facing these to give added security.
New customer information screens and passenger information systems have been added throughout the train, as well as updated toilets and the addition of exterior livery.
Dan Smith, head of engineering, said: “Heathrow Express was built with airline customers and business travellers in mind.
“This recent wave of investment means the fleet is years ahead in terms of safety compliancy and continues to lead the way in terms of on board innovation and technology as well as improving the style and comfort that our passengers deserve”.
