Southeastern completes £30m upgrade to a third of its trains

A £30m, three-year upgrade has been completed by Southeastern in a joint venture with Eversholt Rail and Bombardier to a third of its rolling stock.

The revamp will benefit more than 600,000 passengers and comes as the Class 375 fleet approaches its 15th anniversary of operating.

Each train required three weeks of work from 35 of Bombardier’s site in Derby, which saw 83,000 seat covers dry-cleaned,  20,500 litres of paint applied, and seven miles of carpet replaced.

David Statham, managing director of Southeastern, says: “Our 625,000 daily passengers deserve the highest levels of comfort and that’s why our trains have been renovated. We are very proud of our teams who have worked incredibly hard over the past three years to ensure trains have been refurbished to the highest standards.”

This rolling stock upgrade comes as part of a wider £78m improvement as part of Southeastern’s franchise commitments.
