Bank capacity works exhibited by LU

London Underground is proposing to increase capacity at Bank Tube station to cope with rising passenger numbers. Following an initial announcement of the plans in November, a second exhibition is to be held from May 28 – June 1.

The proposed scheme would be completed by 2021 and includes solutions to ease over-crowding. The work would involve a new southbound Northern line running tunnel to create extra space to reducing crowding on platforms and a new Northern line concourse with additional interchange passageways and escalators to the DLR and Central line.

Lifts to a new ticket hall in King William Streetwould be installed as well as step-free access between street level, the Northern line and the DLR. LU is currently investigating two options for acquiring land to build the project and three options to locate a new station entrance.

David Waboso, London Underground’s director of capital programmes, said: “Bank is one of the busiest stations on the network and we’ve been working closely with the City ofLondonCorporation on plans to create more capacity at this important interchange.

“Most of the work will be below the ground and we’ll keep disruption to a minimum during construction, but it’s important that the public have the chance to comment on what we’re proposing to improve their Tube network.”
