RAIB investigate fatal accident on Port Talbot line
Two inspectors from the Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB) are investigating a fatal accident involving rail workers between Port Talbot Parkway and Bridgend stations.
It is believed that three people working on the tracks were involved in a collision which occurred just before 10am, resulting in two fatalities.
An RAIB spokesperson said: “We are aware of an incident between Port Talbot and Pyle.
“Two inspectors are now travelling to the site to gather evidence.”
In a tweet this afternoon, Network Rail confirmed that the two fatalities reported were Network Rail staff.
Superintendent Andy Morgan from British Transport Police, said: “We are making a number of urgent enquiries to understand exactly what happened in the moments leading to this fatal collision.
“Very sadly two people have died and my officers are now working to identify them and ensure that their families are supported at this incredibly difficult time.”
Transport for Wales said that all services on the line have been halted and the disruption will continue into the early afternoon.
