Chinese delegation visits UK TOC to learn about health and safety

London Midland has hosted a delegation from the Chinese Academy of Rail Sciences in Beijing, visiting the UK to learn about health and safety approaches.

The group of 25 delegates paid a visit to the operator’s Birmingham New Street offices.

Gilbert Fraser, head of safety and standards at London Midland, said: “It was an honour to be invited to speak about the British approach to safety, as we have one of the best records in Europe.

“The delegation heard about the legislative background in the UK, London Midland’s Safety Management System, and the work that we undertake with our industry partners, the BTP, and its Workforce Health & Safety Representatives to deliver a safe and secure railway.”

China is spending £80bn on its railway in just the next three years and the visiting delegates are want to develop safety and quality standards in rail operation to ensure safety standards keep pace with the huge infrastructure growth.
