Crossrail opportunities for the Midlands

Midlands businesses must capitalise on opportunities in Crossrail, the Annual Construction Conference will hear today.

In the last financial year 2,270 full time jobs in the Midlands were supported by Crossrail, and over the course of the project there are an estimated 75,000 business opportunities, supporting the equivalent of 55,000 full time jobs around the UK.

Three in five companies winning bids on the project are based outside of London.

Joanna Lewis, Crossrail supply chain manager, is to speak at the conference. She said: “Crossrail is not just benefitting London and the South East, it is creating jobs and business opportunities right around the UK as our supply chain stretches the length and the breadth of the country.

“We know of dozens of companies in the Midlands that have already won work in the project’s supply chain. However, it is vital that firms in the region continue to capitalise on the openings that will arise as we head towards peak construction.

“Crossrail and its contractors will need suppliers from a whole range of industries as the project moves from tunnel construction to the fit-out of the new stations and ultimately towards a fully operating railway.”
