Have your say on Hendy’s plans

The government is asking the public for feedback on Sir Peter Hendy’s new timeline for delivering Network Rail’s enhancement projects.

Its consultation, launched this week to coincide with Hendy’s Enhancements Delivery Plan Update, is probably a formality because transport secretary Patrick McLoughlin has already said he is “minded to agree” with the review’s recommendations.

But he also says he “will consider all consultation responses before reaching his decision on whether to accept Sir Peter Hendy’s proposals for re-profiling the rail enhancements portfolio”.

The consultation also specifically asks: “Has the re-plan appropriately taken into account the management of industry resources and ability of the supply chain to meet the requirements of the programme?”

This has been a common cause for concern in recent months, but Network Rail does say it has analysed the capabilities of its supply chain.

This consultation runs from 21 January to 18 March. To contribute, email [email protected] with the subject line: “Consultation on the re-planning of Network Rail’s Investment Programme”.

Government and Patrick you having a laugh... Is this your sympathetic or pathetic way that you can pass the responsibility or blame the public (not yourselves) and keep us quiet when this project doesn't deliver on time and in budget like as before initiatives. Does Network Rail not have the ability and competent personal to have analysed this supply correctly? Would a company of this stature not have included contingencies for unforeseen circumstances? Would a company like Network Rail invest £25bn into projects without investing money into surveys, feasibility studies etc? But you Patrick are asking us the unknowledgeable, untrained, unknowing public for free advice??? As Minister of Transport surely you have your own experienced consultants or quote (first-class staff) to gather a more realistic intelligent comparison to Sir Hendy's proposals. A wiser person would learn from mistakes like in 2012 or the 2015 ridicule received for trusting someone else again. Mystified as to how someone with your background holds such a pivotal position in the UK government.
