Huge blaze shuts down all services at Nottingham station
Nottingham station has been shut down following a massive fire which began at around 6.30am this morning.
The station was evacuated and there were no casualties reported, but services are unable to run through Nottingham until further notice.
Around 50 firefighters were reportedly on the scene of the fire, which spread from the main concourse to the roof of the station.
East Midlands Trains said it was cooperating with emergency services to deal with the incident, adding that passengers should avoid the station as it was not able to provide road support to or from the area.
Bryn Coleman, incident commander for Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service, commented: “We have a serious fire at the concourse and the walkways of Nottingham station.
“We got a call at approximately 6.30am to a fire involving a toilet block – that has now spread to the roof void. It is quite a complex construction. We have 12 fire appliance units here, plus specialist firefighting equipment.
“The conditions inside the station at this time are quite arduous for our firefighters, who are committed and working really hard inside. The early indications are that it will remain closed for the rest of the day.”
CrossCountry Trains tweeted: “Due to a fire at Nottingham station, our trains cannot run between Derby & Nottingham.
“We are trying to source alternative transport at present.”
East Midlands Trains said that affected passengers could use services on Virgin Trains (East Coast or West Coast), Transpennine Express, CrossCountry, London Midland and Greater Anglia, using any reasonable route, and should continue to check on its website for further details.
