IET innovation award for Network Rail’s ORBIS scheme
We always like to highlight innovation here at RTM. And this week Network Rail’s multi-million pound saving ORBIS scheme was awarded the Institution of Engineering and Technology’s (IET’s) Asset Management 2014 Innovation Award.
The programme, which is set to save Network Rail £750m over the next 10 years while enhancing safety, will transform its track infrastructure maintenance availability by joining multiple fragmented, complex datasets into simpler and more actionable asset intelligence.
The Network Rail team scooped the award beating four other shortlisted entries, selected from over 400 from 22 countries.
William Webb, IET president, said: “The IET Innovation Awards celebrate the best in global innovation, highlighting the rapid and exciting pace of development in today’s engineering and technology industry.
“Congratulations to the Network Rail team for their win. They were selected from a highly impressive set of global innovations as one of the most forward thinking, pioneering innovations in the field.”
Stephen Dyke, director of asset information (ORBIS) from Network Rail, said that it was great to receive such recognition from a global institution as renowned and long-running as the IET.
“Hopefully this award will mean that we can continue to invest in the innovation and build on what we’ve already achieved, as we continue to build and deliver a better railway for a better Britain,” he said.
