McLoughlin to help mark 175 years of Derby’s railway heritage
Transport secretary Patrick McLoughlin will give the keynote speech at a special event being held later this month to celebrate 175 years of Derby’s railways.
The event, at Derby Cathedral, is open to all.
It is being hosted by the Dean of Derby, the Derby & Derbyshire Rail Forum and the Railway Mission at 11am on Saturday 25 October 2014.
It is just the latest in a busy calendar of events this year marking the anniversary of the arrival of the railways in Derby, including an open day last month at the Etches Park depot.
Colin Walton, chairman of the Derby and Derbyshire Rail Forum, which represents more than 100 rail-related companies across the region and beyond – including RTM – wrote about Derby 175 earlier this year, saying: “We are lucky enough to have world-beating railway companies based in both our city and county. This is a celebration that says thank you for 175 years of support. Not just to railway employees, their families, friends and neighbours and the communities we serve but more importantly to those who use our railways – both passengers and our freight customers. Thank you.”
