Rail Customer Experience finalists revealed

Finalists have been announced for the Enabling Innovation Team (EIT) Rail Customer Experience competition. The awards are part of the Technical Strategy Leadership Group (TSLG) ambition to boost innovation across the industry.

Both rail and non-rail sectors have been nominated and 16 proposals have been shortlisted, including projects on commuter experience, freight customers, multimodal planning, wi-fi services, social media monitoring, aids for visual or hearing impaired customers, station navigation systems and top loading trailers for freight.

Prizes of £300,000 in cash, plus an opportunity to bid for funding from a total investment of £700,000, will be awarded in London on September 17.

David Clarke, director of EIT said: “The response to this competition has been excellent and the online judges have been enthralled by the variety of entries. It just goes to show the number of good ideas and latent innovations that are waiting to be made visible to the people who need them.

“Rail continues to be a very popular mode of transport for both passengers and freight customers, both of whom have high and increasing expectations of a quality experience. This competition is showing that the industry, its supply chain and innovators are ready to meet these expectations.”
