York Operations Centre plans submitted
Network Rail has submitted plans to build a Rail Operations Centre in York, with the application set to be discussed by councillors today. The centre would control the East Coast Main Line between London and Scotland.
Located behind York station, it would replace an existing signalling centre with one that would be the operating hub for the main line. No additional jobs would be created if plans are approved.
Network Rail said the development would also include a training unit with a welding centre and external track facilities, replacing existing facilities in the city and consolidating facilities in the region.
A City of York Councils pokeswoman said the planning committee would discuss the application on Wednesday afternoon.
