‘One’ honours station adopters on rural network
Main awards for Great Yarmouth, Acle, West Runton, Trimley and Newmarket
National Express Group’s ‘one’ railway, the train operator for London and the East of England, has honoured its station adopters on the Rural Routes network in Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Suffolk at the company’s annual rural stations awards ceremony held recently in Norwich.
‘one’ has over a hundred volunteer station adopters across its entire network, and with over 40 stations adopted on the rural network, an annual awards ceremony has been established to recognise the efforts of the station adopters in working with ‘one’ and the Community Rail Partnerships to improve station environments for the benefit of rail passengers and local communities.
Station adopters help with the upkeep of floral displays, and work closely with ‘one’ railway staff including the station maintenance teams in reporting faults and defects, acting as the ‘eyes and ears’ in their local community.
The judging for this year’s event was done by Clive Morris, Business Director, Rural for ‘one’ and John Brodribb, Chairman of the East Suffolk Community Rail Partnership, who visited stations during the summer and assessed each location on the quality of their floral displays, tidiness and general appearance. The results of the judging was as follows:
Best Staffed Station (‘one’ station staff) – Great Yarmouth, runner-up Lowestoft
Best Medium Size Station – Acle, commendation for Brandon
Best Small Size Station – West Runton, highly commended: Brundall Gardens & Reedham
Most Improved Station – Newmarket
Rural Business Director’s Award for Outstanding Contribution - Trimley
The winning stations all received cash prizes to contribute to future workplace improvements and floral displays.
Clive Morris, Business Director Rural for ‘one’ railway said:
“”Our network of station adopters play an increasingly important role in their local communities in working with the team at ‘one’ and the Community Rail Partnerships in improving station environments and championing rail travel. The winners can be proud of their contribution and I should like to thank each and every one of our station adopters for their sterling efforts throughout the past 12 months.”
