FirstGBRf wins new contact with Royal Mail
Mail on rail secured for another three years by freight haulier
FirstGBRf has signed a new contract with Royal Mail to move mail by rail until 2010.
The companies signed the deal following FirstGBRf’s successful operations with Royal Mail since their contract began in 2004.
The new deal will see the freight haulier move more than a million items a day between Royal Mail’s Princess Royal Distribution Centre in North London, Warrington Rail Terminal and the Scottish Distribution Centre in Wishaw, south of Glasgow.
John Smith, FirstGBRf’s Managing Director, is delighted with the new contact win. He said: “ I'm delighted to have extended our haulage arrangements with Royal Mail by a further 3 years. We have worked very hard at ensuring our service levels have been exemplary and this appears to have been rewarded. Going forward there is a real opportunity to secure more Royal Mail traffic back to rail "
Paul Tolhurst, Royal Mail’s Network Director, said: “We are pleased to extend our contract with FirstGBRf, which stabilises our relationship and demonstrates our commitment to continued use of rail in an integrated and flexible multi-modal transport network.
“FirstGBRf has delivered good quality service time after time which has enabled us to deliver target beating quality of service to our customers consistently. FirstGBRf’s work has also helped us meet our commitment to customers with contingency arrangements during high volume periods such as Christmas.”
