HS2 seeking partners for phase 2 contracts worth over £500m
HS2 is seeking bids for two new contracts worth over £500m for phase 2 of the high-speed rail project.
One contract, worth between £130m and £170m, is for a phase 2 development partner, who will provide project management services and support in managing professional service contracts for developing a range of deliverables that will support the deposit of the phase 2 hybrid Bill in the House of Commons in 2019.
An estimated contract length of 90 months, or seven and a half years, has been specified by HS2 for the development partner. Due to the resources, range and depth of skills needed to undertake the contract, it suggested the applicants may wish to combine to form consortia or apply as the main consultant relying on sub consultants to deliver some of the services.
The phase 1 bill recently passed in the House of Commons and is now due to be debated in the House of Lords.
The second contract, worth between £280m and £350m, is for professional services consultants to deliver civils design and environmental services and environmental overview consultant services. As part of the work, the consultants shall develop the phase 2 line of route and associated infrastructure in preparation for the deposit of the hybrid Bill.
This contract is split into three lots, each dealing with a different geographical area. The largest of these is the third lot, worth between £120m and £150m, which covers civils design and environmental services in Leeds.
The same company is not allowed to bid for both contracts. All interested parties have until 25 April to make a bid.
Today's news closely follows the nomination of HS2's phase 1 engineering partner, a team made up of Atkins, CH2M and SENER. This will be a 10-year contract valued between £250m and £350m and covering the whole phase 1 construction phase.
