A million people use rail enquiries app

The National Rail Enquiries (NRE) smartphone app has been downloaded by over a million people since its launch in May.

Developed for use with iPhone and Android operating systems, the app provides the latest real time travel information on train journeys to passengers.

Features include arrivals, departures, a journey planner tool, live progress reports and instant alerts via SMS which operate even when the app isn’t in use. Geolocation technology allows passengers to find their nearest station and a ‘wake-me-up’ alarm can alert passengers at their final destination.

Chris Scoggins, chief executive of NRE, said: “We are delighted that our app has been so popular with passengers in such a short space of time. By developing the app in response to customers’ needs and requests, and by making a free version available, we have made it easier for more passengers to access detailed, real-time train information while on the move.

“Over one million people have downloaded the app in just a few weeks, demonstrating we are giving customers the information they need, in the way they want it.

“We are constantly seeking feedback from our customers and will continue to develop our services to provide passengers with innovative tools to access real time information about rail travel in the UK.”

The app can be downloaded at Apple App Store and Google Play.
