Amey manager appointed as TfN’s permanent NPR director
Transport for the North (TfN) has announced the appointment of its new Northern Powerhouse Rail (NPR) director.
Tim Wood has already successfully held the post of interim NPR director.
He will lead on the flagship programme which aims to radically change performance, improve journey times and reliability, and increase the capacity and frequency of rail connections across the north.
Previously Wood has led development and infrastructure projects internationally as director in both the public and private sectors across infrastructure and construction markets, including in major Network Rail supplier Amey.
He brings 23 years of experience in the rail industry and 10 years in construction.
NPR is a transformational rail programme designed to better connect the key economies of the north. Over 30 years it will combine new, existing and already planned lines, including integration with HS2.
Last month the House of Commons approved draft regulations for TfN to become England’s first sub-national transport body, meaning that the government will be legally obliged to take into account the north’s own priorities when making decisions about transport infrastructure investment.
Barry White, chief executive of Transport for the North, who wrote about the Strategic Transport Plan in the latest issue of RTM, said: “I’m delighted to announce that Tim will be joining us on a permanent basis. Over the last few months he has proven his capability and suitability to lead the NPR team.
“Tim has demonstrated his passion for the role and for our wider vision of a thriving north of England where modern transport connections drive economic growth and support an excellent quality of life.”
Wood added that he was thrilled to be taking up the role permanently.
“The last few months have been extremely busy for the organisation with the launch of our draft Strategic Transport Plan and consultation events taking place across the north,” he added. “NPR Rail is at the heart of TfN’s plans and is critical to rebalancing the UK economy.
“I look forward to leading the team as we embrace the challenge of progressing the programme in the year ahead.”
