Balfour Beatty awarded £50m contract for Great Western line maintenance

Network Rail has today awarded infrastructure group Balfour Beatty a new five-year ‘Reactive Building and Civils Contract’ worth £50m.

As part of the government-funded rail network’s ‘Route Building and Civil Frameworks’ scheme, the contract requires Balfour Beatty to carry out all rail infrastructure repairs and projects along the Great Western route from London to Penzance.

To service the contract, Balfour Beatty plans to open a new office in the Swindon area. The contract will employ a workforce of eight, six members of staff and an additional two graduates.

Mark Bullock, managing director for Rail and Utilities at Balfour Beatty, said: “This contract award is testament to the strength of Balfour Beatty’s relationship with Network Rail and our ability to deliver at short notice a range of reactive work from track through to buildings and general infrastructure repair.

“I am pleased Balfour Beatty has been entrusted to ensure the safe and efficient operation of one of the most important parts of the UK rail network.”
