Edinburgh tram boss leaves to join Abellio
The general manager of Edinburgh trams is to step down and take a senior operations role at scandal-hit Abellio.
Tom Norris, who is also a director for the tram company, guided the service from the launch and through its first year of operation.
He will stand down at the end of the month.
Norris said: “It’s been an absolute privilege for me to lead the Edinburgh Trams team for the last two-and-a-half years.
“Thanks to our brilliant staff, passengers and supporters for making it such a positive experience.
“I’m looking forward to the next step in my career at Abellio Group and will always look back at my time with Edinburgh Trams very fondly.”
Lesley Hinds, chair of Transport for Edinburgh, said: "I wish Tom all the best in his new role and I'd like to take this opportunity to thank him for his contribution to Edinburgh Trams over the past two and a half years.
"A process to recruit a new director GM is now under way."
Norris has worked with Abellio previously, leading the operations team for Anglia Route and Abellio Greater Anglia in the delivery of the London 2012 Olympic Games.
His appointment is a coup for Abellio, which recently fired its CEO. RTM previously reported that the company is facing calls for an inquiry into its UK rail franchise contracts following the dismissal of Jeff Hoogesteger and the boss of its parent company Timo Huges, due to a contracting scandal in the Netherlands.
