Freight dive-under win for Bam Nuttall
Bam Nuttall has been awarded a £20m contract to deliver a dive-under at the Acton freight yard in West London.
Network Rail awarded the contract to avoid disruption to passenger services, and work is expected to begin next May.
Freight trains currently need to cross the main line passenger tracks to enter and leave the yard. A rail underpass will provide paths for freight trains to enter and exit without disrupting Crossrail trains and other services.
The work will include the realignment of two goods lines and three depot reception lines to accommodate the rail underpass.
VolkerRail is currently working on a £15.5m track re-laying contract at the Acton freight yard. These advanced works will be completed by early 2013, with the remaining programme of work for Acton, including a dive-under, due for completion in 2016.
