Inspire the future leaders of the UK rail industry at Gen Y Rail
Organisations from across the rail industry are being encouraged to get involved in Gen Y Rail, a new series of engagement and educational events for young people.
The events promote the UK railways as a career option, and explain more about the training and qualifications and apprenticeships available. Gen Y Rail consists of engineering and design competitions for students and young people aged 12 to 19, split into regional heats and culminating in a national final. The events will also feature presentations from young apprentices and postgraduates already working in the rail industry to inspire and engage.
The first event is at Hancock Museum, Newcastle Upon Tyne on 13 February 2014, with 150 students from 25 schools and colleges across the north east taking part. More events will be announced soon.
Gen Y Rail has been launched by UKRITT, the UK Rail Industry Training Trust – RTM’s own charity aimed at encouraging the next generation into the rail industry. Gen Y Rail has already attracted significant attention from organisations including Network Rail, train operators, training providers and other organisations keen to tackle the problems that arise from an ageing workforce.
To volunteer on the day, mentor the teams and help play a vital role in assisting students in developing solutions to engineering challenges (all while exhibiting to and engaging with a room full of tomorrow’s leaders) get in touch using the contact details below.
