Network Rail’s subsidiary secures systems integrator contract in Australia

The Australian subsidiary of Network Rail Consulting has been named as the systems integrator for the Digital Systems Program in Sydney by Transport for New South Wales (TfNSW), a role which will see the publicly-owned body assist with the delivery of major systems upgrade down under.

The programme will see existing signalling and train control systems replaced with more modern technology to enable more trains on the track, bringing a higher frequency of reliable services for Sydney’s rail passengers.

NR Consulting will partner up with Acmena, the Go-Ahead Group and Ineco to deliver the programme.

Replacing trackside signalling equipment with ETCS Level 2 technology, implementing Automatic Train Operation, and introducing a Traffic Management System are just some of the elements that the UK track owner’s wholly-owned international consultancy arm will deliver in Sydney.

Network Rail Consulting’s global managing director, Nigel Ash, said: “Having been involved in the development of the Digital Systems Program in various forms over the last five years we’re delighted to have the opportunity to continue our support to TfNSW on this next exciting phase.

“Our team has a unique combination of Australian, Spanish and UK expertise in the latest digital rail technology and we are delighted to be working alongside our international partners to provide world class expertise to TfNSW.”

Established in 2012, NR Consulting has subsidiaries across the world in Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the USA, with the aim of exporting the UK’s rail expertise in asset management, maintenance, timetabling and simulation modelling, and project management.
