New railway station between Hinckley and Nuneaton receives backing

Plans for a new railway station between Hinckley and Nuneaton looks set to go ahead following backing from councillors.

Nuneaton Parkway Station has been proposed as a multi-modal facility, set to be built as part of the Warwickshire Draft Rail Strategy 2019-2034. It is expected to improve services between Birmingham, Leicester, Coventry and Nottingham.

Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council has now formally endorsed the station plans, with the ongoing consultation over the proposals set to soon come to a close. Should it be approved, the new station is earmarked for delivery in the next seven to 14 days.

Councillor David Ball said: “We recognise that the people of this area would benefit from the proposed Nuneaton Parkway Station. It would offer enhanced services from Hinckley and improved facilities for long distance commuting that will benefit the local economy.

“We have asked to be kept informed and involved as we have long supported the need for improved services and facilities for passengers travelling to and from Hinckley.”

A total of six new stations across Warwickshire have been proposed by the strategy.
