Northern Rail sees car park expansions

A £1m improvement scheme has been completed at two of Northern Rail’s stations in Calderdale.

Todmorden and Sowerby Bridge car parks have been expanded, by 18 and 37 spaces respectively. The project was funded through the Stations Car Park Fund, run by the DfT and in partnership with Metro, the west Yorkshire PTE.

Richard Allan, area director of Northern Rail, said: “These improvements bring welcome additional opportunities for our customers to park at two of our popular stations in Calderdale. We have worked hard with our industry partners to bring benefits such as these to our passengers and are delighted to see them come to fruition.”

“I'm delighted that Metro has been able to work with Northern to increase car parking at these stations,” said Metro chairman Cllr James Lewis.

“Providing additional car parking will help encourage people to try the train instead of driving, helping to reduce congestion on local roads in line with the aspirations of the West Yorkshire Local Transport Plan.”

You don't mean £1bn surely...

Typo I'm afraid! The correct figure is £1m.

Car parking essential at every station now. Most make use of old goods yards. Also parking in towns becoming less people are using station car parks more. The last station I worked at the council decreased the area parking with double yellow lines and created two hour parking. The local college made good use of it.
