Southend East gates complete security drive for c2c
Train operating company c2c has now installed ticket barriers at all of its stations, to increase security and reduce fare evasion.
A £530,000 project at Southend East installed the final barriers, which were brought into full operational use from yesterday. The project took three months and was funded by the DfT.
Rochford and Southend East MP James Duddridge and c2c managing director Julian Drury visited the station on Friday to test the gates.
Drury said: “Until now Southend East has been the gap in our armour, but now we’re the first train company in the South East to have gates at every station. This will make life harder for fare-dodgers and brings us a step closer to a ticketing revolution on c2c.”
Duddridge said: “It is fabulous to see more investment in this station from c2c. The gates make the station safer and look nicer, and represent a real improvement for the station.”
