Stations in Liverpool
Source: Geordie
Liverpool needs a new station now. Why not re-open Exchange and re-name Moorfields as Exchange Low Level while we are at it? Everything is in place and the businesses that have been built at the back of the marvellous facade on Tithebarn Street could easily be incorporated into a station serving Lancashire and beyond, with the possibility of an HS2 terminus being created. This would at a stroke answer the critics who say it would be too expensive to reconfigure and extend Lime Street to accommodate HS2 trains.
All that's standing in the way are a string of car parks, and the need to re-build a bridge over Leeds Street. Now that Kirkby will once again be a through station by the end of the decade, the possibility of an extra, albeit longer, electric route to Manchester Victoria is clear. Some Southport services could also terminate at Exchange, thus relieving the pressure on Central Station.
