Support for bid to extend London Tramlink to Sutton

Plans for an extension of London Tramlink from the existing Croydon-Wimbledon line at Merton through Rosehill and St Helier, Angel Hill, and Sutton High Street to a terminal at Sutton station and eventually the Royal Marsden Hospital have won backing from TramForward.

Detailed plans were made public at a meeting on Thursday night, with Sutton Council leading on the bid, which is backed by prominent businesses and transport minister Norman Baker.

TramForward, the campaigning arm of the Light Rail Transit Association, has called for Transport for London to liaise with Sutton Council to “take this proposal forward and make it a reality”.

It says that the tram connection would cut local journey times and costs, reduce pollution on the streets of Sutton and help regenerate deprived areas such as the St Helier Estate by encouraging investment, improving access and widening the job market in the localities affected.

C'mon RTM - how about some maps? Diagrams? Drawings? Not just recycled press releases. Add some value, eh?

Right, so the route is going to come in through St Helier, Rose and Angel Hills, up the High Street around the block to the station and then up the gradual incline to the Shanklin Estate and The RMH. As if there are not enough drug peddlers, pushers and addicts in Sutton already.
