Plough about that! Severe disruption in Yorkshire as tractor crashes onto train tracks

Passengers travelling between Leeds and Doncaster, Sheffield, and London were advised to check before they set off this morning after a tractor damaged railway tracks and overhead equipment near Wakefield.

The vehicle towing a trailer damaged a gantry at Fitzwilliam at around 9pm last night.

No injuries were reported and no arrests have been made, the BTP has said.

Network Rail staff members had to work overnight and the tractor has now been removed. Initial repairs to the track and overhead line equipment have been completed and some services were able to resume at 10:30 this morning, albeit at a reduced speed.

It is expected that disruption will last until 6pm tonight.

Network Rail staff apologised for the disruption caused and thanked passengers for their patience whilst the delays occur.
