A blueprint for an integrated transport system in the north?

RTM is heading to the launch of IPPR North’s flagship ‘Transport for the North’ report today, which we’ve been told provides a blueprint for how the north can move towards an integrated transport system.

HS2 chief executive Simon Kirby will be speaking at today’s event, held at PwC in Manchester. And we’ve been told the report will cover three northern regions, which would ultimately be responsible for franchising, infrastructure investment, smart ticketing and more.

The event will explore what the benefits of Transport for the North will be and what additional responsibilities such a body could take on in future.

Other speakers include Jon Lamonte, CEO of Transport for Greater Manchester; Ed Cox, director at IPPR North; and Vernon Everitt, TfL’s managing director of Customer Experience, Marketing and Communications.

Momentum is building behind the Northern Powerhouse agenda and a united desire for the north to transform its transport links and economic prospects; it will be interesting to see what this new report brings to the debate.
