Alstom’s HS2 director appointed as acting managing director
Alstom’s HS2 director has hailed the ‘incredibly exciting’ developments taking place in the UK rail industry after being appointed as the company’s acting managing director for the UK and Ireland.
Henrik Anderberg has worked for Alstom since 2010, formerly as the managing director for transport in the Nordic countries. He takes over from Terence Watson, who left the company last week. The Serious Fraud Office (SFO) on 29 March charged Watson in its ongoing investigation into alleged bribes paid out in connection to Alstom Network UK. The alleged offences are said to have taken place between 1 January 2003 and 31 December 2008 and concern the supply of trains to the Budapest Metro.
RTM interviewed him shortly after he became HS2 director last summer. He will continue in the post in addition to his new role.
Anderberg said: “This is an incredibly exciting time to be working in the UK rail sector. Investment is coming in for new infrastructure, signalling, rolling stock and stations, and the enthusiasm in the sector is impressive.”
He said Alstom UK & Ireland’s next step is applying for consent for a programme of investment in Widnes. Alstom became a wholly rail-focused company last year after selling its energy interests.
