c2c reveals 2017 timetable as new Class 387 enters service

Operator c2c has now published its timetable for next year, on the same day that the first of its six brand-new Class 387 EMU trains entered passenger service.

The company, which is known for consistently topping performance tables, has promised that the timetable will bring faster journey times between stations in Southend and London, longer trains between Thurrock and London and more seats available at stations in mid-Essex – addressing the top priorities of passengers.

The new timetable, which comes into effect on 9 January and was developed in co-operation with local passenger groups, is designed to take advantage of the possibilities offered by the six new four-carriage Class 387 trains.

Announcing the publication of the timetable, c2c’s managing director Julian Drury said: “Today is a really significant step in our efforts to address the top priorities of our customers in different areas. It’s little over six months since we signed the contract for these new trains, and in that time they have been built and now they have started running in passenger service.

“There will be more changes over the coming weeks as we embed the new trains, so I’d like to thank our passengers for bearing with us during this time. Once this project finishes and January’s timetable change is introduced I hope that most passengers will notice an improvement in their commute.”

The TOC signed a short-term lease agreement for the trains back in April in response to a sharp rise in passenger demand. The operator is currently tendering for a new fleet.

The first eight of c2c’s new carriages went into service from Thorpe Bay earlier this week. This enabled c2c to extend three other busy peak trains with extra carriages, adding over 280 more seats to each service.

The remaining 16 new carriages will also start running passenger services over the next few weeks, with further increased capacity expected from next January’s timetable change.

James Duddridge, MP for Rochford and Southend East, joined other VIP guests on the final test run of the first new train, where he said: “The existing trains have always been very good but these new trains are a fabulous improvement.

“The forthcoming faster journey times are very important for local residents and it is excellent news there will now be four trains to London from Shoeburyness in an hour or less.”

c2c is the most punctual train operator in London and was named as London’s best commuter operator by Which? magazine in their most recent survey of rail companies.

The 6 Class 387/3's that c2c are hiring for 3 years will help to improve better journeys and to introduce a Fenchurch St-Southend Central and Fenchurch St-Shoeburyness semi-fast) services as the new timetable will be introduced from after Christmas.

You really don't give up. And you still haven't learned how to use full stops.

Sonning Cutting   18/11/2016 at 17:59

Well done Steve. AG is the OED definition of a Nerd!

Andrew Gwilt   18/11/2016 at 20:44

@Steve. I do have grammar problems and I get all hyped up. @Sonning Cutting. I predicate that I'm a nerd but I'm not.

Bob_G   18/11/2016 at 22:43

I now have to really hesitate and think hard before deciding whether I want to read an RTM article - and its associated comments, usually by the same author.

Simon   19/11/2016 at 14:54

I quite agree Bob , AG seems to comment on all articles and is usally incorrect, AG please shut up! RTM - whilst the comments section on each article allows people to comment on it can you please stop Andrew from commenting on everything, to note he also comments on stuff on the Rail Magazine website as well! Getting annoying now

Ryan   20/11/2016 at 11:18

"I'm a special snowflake and allowed to comment on whatever I want and if you don't like it then shut up and ignore me because it's your fault anyway that you are trolling me"

GW   20/11/2016 at 16:51

I hope they have more comfortable seats than the 387's on Southern.

Andrew Gwilt   20/11/2016 at 17:22

WHATEVER!! WHATEVER!!

JT   21/11/2016 at 09:35

Unfortunately, I have to agree Andrew. While your comments are harmless they do get in the way of any serious discussion that users of this site might want to have about the posted articles, lack of grammar/punctuation notwithstanding. Just because you can, doesn't mean you should. Anyway... Doesn't C2C perform well because its route is practically 'one long siding' (as quoted by someone whose name I can't recall)?

Richard Collins   22/11/2016 at 12:46

Freedom of speech - AG's comments were inoffensive and informative. Let him speak!

Andrew Gwilt   23/11/2016 at 23:30

At least some of those are absolute trolls.

Jon   24/11/2016 at 01:57

Anybody who doesn't agree with Andrew is a troll. Right. Because that's how freedom of speech works.

Andrew Gwilt   25/11/2016 at 13:51

@Jon Oh Please.

Boris   26/11/2016 at 00:28

Please what?

Andrew Gwilt   29/11/2016 at 23:46

This is some kind of joke. Zzzzzz
