Earl’s Court track replacement a ‘real achievement’

Track replacement at Earl’s Court station has been successfully completed over the festive period by the Track Partnership between London Underground and Balfour Beatty Rail.

Work included replacing track through three of the four District line platforms, the replacement of two bridges over passageways, realigning the platform edge on platform 4 to reduce the gap to trains, and installing new track drainage to the west of the station.

Completing the work over the Christmas holidays in an extended closure saved over £2m and significantly reduced disruption for passengers.

Ram Ramburn, project manager for the works, said: “I am really proud of the team who gave up their Christmas to deliver these vital works to keep London moving. Delivering all these works in 132 hours whilst allowing passengers to continue to flow through the station was a real achievement.”

The LU / Balfour Beatty Rail alliance has been shortlisted in the Outstanding Projects (£3m to £20m) category of the UK Rail Industry Awards (UKRIA) for its earlier work on the Hainault Loop.
