First stage of repairs to Nottingham station complete

The first stage of repairs to Nottingham train station after damage caused by a fire has been completed by Network Rail, whose engineers have been on site since January.

Most of the repairs are now complete, but Network Rail will now carry out the final works, which includes a PA system and removal of hoardings.

A footbridge, which had been closed since January after the major fire, is now reopen. Passengers now also have access to platform seven from the station concourse, but step-free access is still via Queens Road.

The toilets on the southern concourse, where the fire started, are expected to reopen in the coming weeks.

Neil Henry, head of operations delivery for Network Rail, thanked station users for their patience as NR worked closely with East Midlands Trains to minimise disruption to passengers, which included “carrying out the majority of repairs overnight.”

Sarah Turner, general manager at East Midlands Trains, said: “We are pleased to see the first stage of the repairs to Nottingham station completed and we look forward to the rest of the area damaged by the fire reopening in the near future.

“We would like to thank Network Rail and their partners for completing the work and our customers for their patience and understanding.”
