Improved rail services for East Anglia
Greater Anglia’s transformation of the East Anglia is set to continue later this year with a complete fleet of new trains.
Sunday 15 December will see the start of the December timetable, introducing a brand-new service between Norwich and Stanstead Airport. The new service will give people a direct link to the airport from the city for the first time.
A total of seven services will be in operation from Monday to Friday, stretching to 15 on Saturdays and 13 on Sundays.
Rural branch lines stand to benefit too with additional services running hourly on Sundays between Ipswich and Cambridge, Ipswich and Lowestoft and Norwich and Lowestoft.
Services between London Liverpool Street and Cambridge are also to be extended to Cambridge North every day of the week.
Other routes have also been improved with all services calling at Prittlewell on the Southend – London Liverpool Street line Mondays to Fridays, and an additional service from Cambridge to Harwich International and Ipswich to Felixstowe on Sundays.
Greater Anglia is running an additional 37 services per week from the start of the new timetable. Totalling around 9,000 extra seats per week.
Martin Moran, Greater Anglia’s commercial and customer service director said:
“More services and thousands of extra seats will provide a boost to people who live and work in East Anglia, as well as supporting the regional economy.”
“These improvements are helping us to transform the railway for the people of East Anglia as we continue the introduction of our brand-new fleet of trains into passenger service.”
Existing fleets are to be replaced by new ones on every route, providing more seats, more comfort, air conditioning, plug sockets and better accessibility.
The £1.4 billion investment across the Greater Anglia network is underway and will continue until end of 2020, bringing more reliable trains to the area.
