Inclusive rail training guide to help remove barriers around learning

Network Rail have released a new guide to inclusivity in rail in a bid to establish best practice, standards, and guidelines to inclusive training.

The ‘everyone matters guide to inclusive learning’ handbook looks at establishing inclusive training design and delivery throughout the UK rail industry, which will result in a better learning experience and increased engagement in training.

Network Rail’s handbook is a result of consultation between training organisations, specialists, trainers, designers, management and learners.

The guide offers practical advice and hints and tips for inclusive practice, and steps to take to minimise barriers to learning.

Inclusivity and diversity have been a growing theme within rail recently and discussions and initiatives have been taking place across the country.

Last week, RTM hosted TransCityRail in Manchester, which consisted of an equality, diversity and inclusion Q&A discussion with representatives from HS2, Amey Plc, VolkerVessels UK and the Rail Alliance.

The Q&A looked at how the rail industry can do more to attract and inspire the next generation of rail professionals, with Mark Lomas of HS2 mentioning ‘blind auditioning’ which he wrote about in greater detail in the latest edition of RTM.
